El Yunque, is the only tropical rainforest in the United States Forest System, encompasses 28,000 acres and reaches an elevation of 3,526 feet. The rainforest averages 200 inches of rainfall a year, nourishing the 240 species of trees as well as roaring waterfalls. The guides will lead them along well-marked trails through the lush woodlands where they will be able to see the nest of the Puerto Rican parrot, flora and fauna of the Palo Colorado forest and its other inhabitants. The climate is the frost free and ranges in the moisture from semi desert to rain forest conditions within very short distances.
